How do I get a library card?

Library cards are issued to all Haworth residents free of charge. To obtain a library card, please bring proof of residency of your current home address (driver's license or state ID card) to the main desk  - it only takes a few minutes to obtain a card and cards are valid for three years.

What does it mean if my library card is "expiring?"

Library cards will "expire" every three years, at which point the card may be renewed upon verification that the holder is still a Haworth resident.
How to I request something from another library?
Use the BCCLS Catalog to request items 24/7 from home, work, or your smartphone. Please note: new items, popular books, and high-demand media may not be loaned at the discretion of the owning library. You will need your library card number and password to request an item online.
  • When you find an item you want, click the Place Request button on the right side of your screen.
  • You will be prompted to log in with your 14-digit library card # or Username, as well as your Password.
  • Click the Log In button to continue.
  • Select at which library you would like to pick up your book and click Submit Request.
  • The library will call or email you when your item is ready for pickup.
Items unavailable in the BCCLS catalog may also be requested through the statewide inter-library loan service, JerseyCat. Please see any staff member about making a request or email hawhcirc@bccls.org
Can I donate old books or movies?
Please check with the director or a staff member before making a donation.  We do tend to accept children's books or hardcover bestsellers in good condition.
How do I renew an item?
You can renew online--just access your account HERE, with your library card number and your password.  You can also come in or give us a call and we can do it for you at the library.

How does BCCLS work?
BCCLS, pronounced "Buckles," stands for the Bergen County Cooperative Library System, although several libraries outside of Bergen County are included in its 77 member libraries.  You can visit or borrow from any of the 77 BCCLS libraries.  Search the BCCLS catalog, either through haworthlibrary.org or BCCLS.org, place a request, and any item in the BCCLS system will be delivered within a matter of days to your home library.  Materials can be returned to ANY BCCLS library.
What if BCCLS doesn't have an item I want?
If BCCLS doesn't own an item, we can try to get the item outside of the BCCLS system, through interlibrary loan.  This kind of loan usually requires more time, and loan periods vary.
Do I need to register for library programs and how do I do that?
Most programs at the Haworth Library, especially children's programs, require registration.  Visit haworthlibrary.org, and click on links under "Events and Registration."
